2021 Prize Recipients

The 2021 Spring Prizes were awarded across six categories: Intentional, Young, Established and Influence Awards, a Youth In Permaculture Prize (run in partnership with Abundant Earth Foundation) and an Ancient and Indigenous Wisdom Award (run in partnership with Be The Earth Foundation); investing more than £220,000 in regenerative work.

Intentional Project Awards (£40,000 prize fund) went to the following young and newly developing projects:
Fundación Cuidemos Paraísos (Chile)
PermaQueer (Australia)
Sacha Kuyrana Maltakuna – Young Kichwa Defenders of the Forest (Ecuador)
The Mount Oku Centre for Gender and Socioeconomic Empowerment (Cameroon)

Young Project Awards (£60,000 prize fund) went to four recipients that have a proven track record and are seeking to expand or develop.
Comunità Frizzante (Italy)
Education for Climate Action for Peace (E4CAP) (Malaysia)
Food Secured Schools Africa (Ethiopia)
Kenyan Peasants League (KPL) (Kenya)

Established Project Awards (£50,000 prize fund) went to two organisations considered to be beacons of regeneration that have withstood the test of time:
Instituto Mesoamericano de Permacultura (IMAP) (Guatemala)
Permatil (Timor-Leste)

The Influence Award (£50,000 prize fund) went to three organisations that are campaigning or lobbying to influence policy, regulation or public opinion in support of regeneration:
Fambidzanai Permaculture Centre (Zimbabwe)
Gaza Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Platform (GUPAP) (Palestine)
Landworkers’ Alliance (UK)

 

For 2021 we had two additional exploratory special awards.

Ancient and Indigenous Wisdom Award (£10,000 prize fund) went to three recipients, one of which wished to remain anonymous. It was funded by Be The Earth:

The Marginalized Mirror (Namibia)

Youth in Permaculture Prize (£10,000 prize fund) hosted by Abundant Earth Foundation (AEF) went to four organisations to honour young people making a positive difference:
Education for Climate Action for Peace (E4CAP) (Malaysia)
Malawi Schools Permaculture Clubs (Malawi)
Sacha Kuyrana Maltakuna – Young Kichwa Defenders of the Forest (Ecuador)
SCOPE Kenya (Kenya)
